Composite Process Engineer

Job Title:  Composite Process Engineer Requisition No: 05-05-006-050
Reports To: VP, Engineering Location: Pittsburg, CA
FLSA Status:  Exempt Prepared Date:  May 5, 2005

Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for the definition, analysis, and implementation of product and process improvements as relates to the production fabrication of Lexite composite boards and derivative products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

(Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Consults with Manufacturing Operations to determine product and process requirements.
  • Consults with management team to review project proposals to determine goals, timing, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of resources.
  • Develops project plans specifying goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, identification of risks, contingency plans, and allocation of available resources.
  • Formulates and defines technical scope and objectives of project.
  • Identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of project to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.
  • Establishes standards and procedures for project reporting and documentation.
  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules and plans as required.
  • Prepares project status reports and keeps management and others informed of project status and related issues.
  • Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
  • Coordinates and responds to requests for changes from original specifications.
  • Develops business processes that ensure developed application meets all project requirements.
  • Develops and maintains technical and project documentation.
  • Develops product or material test plans and directs quality assurance testing.
  • Coordinates project activities with marketing, sales, operations, customer support, and management staff to ensure that goals and requirements are met.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of- the-art technology, equipment, and material systems.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
Minimum Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university and 5-10 years related experience and/or training in Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Materials Science or Physical Science; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in assisting with developing and working with automated plastics/composites manufacturing including pultrusion, extrusion, filament winding, or continuous lamination. Experience with process engineering including development, troubleshooting, and analysis. Experience using thermoset materials including epoxy, vinylester, and polyester resin systems in production environments. Experience using thermoplastic materials including PVC, polyethylene, and polypropylene in production environments. Practical knowledge and experience in the use and integration of structural core materials including polystyrene, polyurethane, PVC, and organic and inorganic fillers. Practical knowledge and experience in the use of structural web reinforcements.
